ACCESSED FOREST

A term used to describe forest that has been disturbed by human activity. Accessed forests are defined not according to a measure of biological disturbance but by the proximity of the forest to roads, navigable rivers (in the case of Kalimantan), human settlements, agriculture, mines, and other developments. Forests are considered accessed if they are within 0.5 km of rivers or 1 km of roads and other features. (See also Low Access Forest.)
